Teasing You with Some Tidbits

I’m at that point where I’m bogged down in the soggy middle of this work in progress. If I can get over the hump, the ending will fly, I’m sure, but until then each and every word feels like it has to be pulled out of me like a large headed child. So…let me tell you a little bit about this WiP in hopes that getting you excited about it will get me excited about it, because my little sidebar status meter, though helpful, just isn’t doing it for me right now.

A good indication about what’s in a book is what research the author does to write it, so for FLANKED (Studs in Spurs, Book 5) I have looked into the following topics…

Body Piercing (specifically nipple, clit & hood)

Tattoos

Marriage License Laws in various states in the US

Centrifugal Force in bull riding

Building a Tree Stand for deer hunting

Shoulder injuries requiring surgery in bull riders

Health insurance

The sports medicine crew in the arena at bull rides

So, does that give you some kind of hint as to what Garret James, the hottie pro bull rider from my Studs in Spurs series, might be up to in his upcoming book? I hope so! Now, back to writing. About 19K left to write to finish this big-headed baby up and send it away to my editor. Now THAT is exciting.

Hooked (Studs in Spurs Book 4)

It seems like I’ve been waiting forever (or at least ever since I finished writing it back in December 2010) for the release of the next Studs in Spurs series novel, HOOKED, but the wait (for the eBook anyway) is finally over and the timing is perfect because guess what was chosen as SERIES OF THE MONTH by the MENAGE READERS group on Goodreads? You got it–my Studs in Spurs, and I couldn’t be more excited.

HOOKED (Studs in Spurs, Book 4 )

His last eight seconds could lead to the longest, most satisfying ride of his life.

Annie Grant is at the top of her game as an on-air interviewer for the pro bull-riders tour. In all those years standing within microphone range of thousands of sexy cowboys, she’s never been tempted…until now. Now that respected veteran Luke Carpenter is no longer with his longtime girlfriend, he’s back on the market. And Annie is buying.

Luke knows his days are numbered. Every year the rookies get younger, the bulls get ranker and, like it or not, the time is coming when he’ll be hanging up his spurs. After a sizzling hot night with Annie, he realizes that maybe this old dog can learn some new tricks. But quicker than a bull can spin, things get complicated.

A tragedy forces Luke into a no-win decision: hang onto the tail end of his career, or retire early for his family. Either way, he can live with his choice. Question is, can he live without Annie?

Warning: Contains knock-your-boots-off cowboy lovin, some up close and personal interviews of the oral persuasion, and a happy ending…cowboy style.

New to the series? Each book is standalone but with continuing characters. For those who like to read series in succession, here’s the:

Chase is winning new readers~new review for my contemporary cowboy romance Ride

RideFrom the Review:

“…The sizzling sexual tension between Leesa and Chase is scorching!

Ride is a fun book, filled with memorable characters and entertaining situations. Mix in with a bit of mystery, and there you have it. Ms. Johnson writes the kind of story that keeps the reader engaged and interested. There’s moments that made me laugh out loud. And the twist at the end I never saw coming.

This is a new-to-me author, and after reading this delightful story, it won’t be the last. I was drawn in by Ms. Johnson’s humorous, emotional story. If you enjoy a hot romance, humor, and a book you won’t forget, then come along for the ride.”

NEWS FROM THE BUCKING WORLD…

Tomorrow, before dawn as all proper road trips start, I will be heading to Raleigh, NC for the National Bull Riders (NBR) Finals. Two nights of bucking bulls, and meeting in person friends from my cyber world. Most notably I’ll be graced with the live and in person presence of Scott Mesick, the voice of Makin’ 8 as he reports live from the arena.

Tune in Feb 11th & 12th to the Buckers Now live event center for video action and the interaction in chat room where riders, fighters, fans & more gather. I know the bucking begins at 7:30 PM Eastern time though Scott will likely start the show early. I’ll be there close enough to see the bull snot, just the way I like it. And who knows, there’s a good chance Scott will let me make a guest appearance on air so you better tune in Friday and Saturday night and see!

The second person I’m most excited to meet live and in person is the bull rider I sponsor, who’ll be wearing Let’s Buck on his sleeve and vest, Brian Conzett. Wish him luck and let’s hope the Let’s Buck brand brings him as much luck as it’s brought me. Look for more on Brian on my Bull Riders page.

January Happenings…

Now that the excitement of New Years has died down, what’s up with me the rest of this month? A LOT! Let’s go in order I guess…for simplicity sake.

January 5th, Wednesday night, I’ll be using my powers for good instead of evil to help raise funds and awareness for the Amyloidosis Foundation. This is a little-known disease, considered a “cousin” of blood cancers, which has affected someone very close to me.  We’re holding an event the 5th from 6 – 10 PM at Teddy’s located in the Holiday Inn in Mount Kisco, NY and yours truly will be stepping behind the bar as guest bartender for the evening. There’s no cover charge but there will be some rocking karaoke courtesy of Big Rich Karaoke (of Montuak, Long Island fame) and your Ciro’s Idol winner Donna DeAngelis. All tips and a portion of the proceeds will go to the Foundation. Come one, come all, it’s open to everyone. No invite, no reservation necessary. Come for an hour or stay for the night. Come just to see if I remember how to mix a drink from my old days behind the bar. Come to see how many tips I, and our friend Whitney, are able to rake in for this worthy cause.

January 7th, Friday, will find me at Madison Square Garden for the opening night of the PBR 2011 season! I’ll be back in NYC again for the Sunday event (Jan 9th)  as well and I’m looking forward to hooking up with all the Makin’ 8 maniacs I’ve come to know and love on Twitter who’ll be in town for the events. If you’re going to be there, try and find us! Chances are I’ll have some cowboy swag to hand out.

ALL MONTH I’ll be over at the Coffee Time Romance Forums hosting CoffeeWrite. This is kind of a writing round robin. I write the beginning of a story, then it’s up to you all to write the rest, one paragraph at a time. You can post up to once per day or just once during the month if you want, but at the end of the month, I’ll be choosing the best contribution and awarding a prize. It officially starts January 5th HERE and is open to readers, published authors, aspiring authors, or anyone who wants to come over and have fun with us.

The month of January also finds me as the featured author at The Romance Reviews–Erotic. Hop over and read the in-depth interview where I spill never-before-told secrets behind the writing of BUCKED (Studs in Spurs, Book 2). AND of course, there’s a contest. The contest rules are at the bottom of the interview HERE.

Finally (phew) I’ll be at a group signing with my favorite peeps at the Borders Books in Middletown, NY at the Galleria at Crystal Run on January 29th from 2 – 5 pm. Stop by for swag and a chat, and maybe a book or two.

That’s it, that’s all I got for now. There is a super secret announcement that I’m not allowed to make just yet, but it involved that hot cowboy menage short story I’ve been talking about on Twitter for the past two weeks. More to come…

Are you ready for this ride?

Ride For Chase fans who fell in love with him way back in UNRIDDEN (Studs in Spurs, Book 1) and who wished they were the third in his little encounter in Mustang’s trailer in BUCKED (Studs in Spurs, Book 2), for those who devoured the 2 free reads “8 Second Ride” and “The Rookie” and still want more of Chase, the wait is finally over. It’s time to ride! The novel-length eBook is now available!

Chase Reese is back and he’s in Vegas. And you know what can happen in Vegas, don’t you?

Bucked in Paperback! Let’s Buck!

Bucked (Studs in Spurs, Book 2) officially releases in paperback tomorrow which means you may (fingers crossed) actually come across it on a shelf at a bookstore near you. You definitely will find it at all the online booksellers such as Borders, BN and Amazon.

But wait, you’re saying, I thought this book is out already. Yes it is, but only in eBook. The publisher likes to leave a ten month lag between the eBook release and the release of the trade paperback.

Why do they do that? Waiting sucks, you may be saying. Well, here’s the thing. It’s kind of like how in high fashion the new spring designer lines are shown at the fall fashion shows so the stores have time to order them for the following year.

I used to totally agree that waiting (and having to promo the same book for two separate release dates) sucks, until just a few months ago when people started to email and text me pictures of my UNRIDDEN (Studs in Spurs, Book 1) on actual bookstore shelves at BNs and Borders. That ten month delay gives the booksellers time to shop for and order the books releasing later in the year. I even had an indie bookseller in Syracuse, NY ask me to send them promo for Bucked so I have great hopes it too will be shelved. Apparently the system works so who am I to argue? To a little author with an indie pub like me, getting actual shelf space in a brick and mortar large chain bookstore or even a small indie bookstore is AMAZING!!

So here I am, promoting Bucked once again and the timing couldn’t be more perfect. The amateur bull rider I sponsor just received his second batch of Let’s Buck stickers to distribute at all the rodeos he rides in in Oklahoma. I co-sponsored Makin’ 8‘s trip to Las Vegas for the National Rodeo Finals (NFR) and they are there this week reporting back live on all the cowboy goings-on there. And of course I’ll be visible on the web talking about Bucked for those who care to listen.  Deja vu all over again, but it is no hardship to revisit Mustang, the hero of Bucked. Hope you feel the same.

Have you already read BUCKED and want more?

There is a deleted scene from Bucked starring Mustang and Chase called THE ROOKIE available on my Free Reads page. Enjoy!
