"DESIRE IN D.C. by Cat Johnson... is an emotional roller-coaster. Buckle up and prepare to be taken for a ride."
"adventure and intrigue... full of twists... a great page turner."Â
They couldn't be more different, but sometimes opposites attract so strongly, there's nothing that can keep two people apart. Not even a deadly terrorist hijacking.
Peter Greenwood expected to have to work hard and prove himself to rise in the ranks of politics. What he didn't expect was to have to do it to get his dream girl.
Martha "Marty" Vanderbilt and Peter are opposites in every way. She's rich from old family money, he couldn't be more middle class. She's a liberal journalist and he's working for a Republican senator. She's loud and opinionated and he keeps his mouth shut and his head down.
But sometimes opposites attract so strongly, there's nothing that can keep two people apart. Not even a deadly terrorist kidnapping . . .
Long before he became the Senator from Virginia, long before his daughter Missy fell in love with and married Navy SEAL Zane Alexander, Peter Greenwood was a young, driven legislative aide in Washington D.C. during the turbulent 1970s trying to win his future wife. Read how it all went down in this Hot SEALs Series spin-off origin story.
This story was originally released as part of the Danger and Desire Romantic Suspense Anthology September 2020.

KB on Goodreads wrote:Cat Johnson’s page-turning story is evocative of the 70s and the Washington DC of that time. Loved this prequel of sorts to the Hot SEAL series, and look forward to the series itself!
Jane A. on Goodreads wrote:...a fast paced literary flashback to the controversial 1970's ...A well written opposites attract romance with touches of suspense and steam this novella has a heartwarming ending while providing a hint into the future.
Mary on Goodreads wrote:An interesting trip down a historical memory lane cleverly woven into the story of Missy Greenwood’s parents... A case of the heart wants what the heart wants with a protest rally that turns violent, a terrorist hijacking thrown in and of course an early Seal making an appearance to complete this fun story.
Cherie on Goodreads wrote:"adventure and intrigue... full of twists and is a great page turner."
Madam007 on Goodreads wrote:Enjoyed the 70’s throwback and the way historical events were woven through this story.
Janelle Beaver on Goodreads wrote:"...the good guy got the bad girl and it worked out beautifully, though not without some angst and drama in the political arena of D.C., and a harrowing hijacking."
5 Stars
Anne Donaldson on Goodreads wrote:"...action, kidnapping and romance. 5 stars"
J. Williams on Goodreads wrote:I’ve never read a disappointing Cat Johnson book, so there was a lot of expectation going in here. This is the story of Missy greenwood’s parents, and it’s a story of opposites, with Peter a conservative, quiet senatorial aide, and Marty, an impetuous liberal. The story has it all – protests, terrorists (with a cameo from Idi Amin himself), and the hot SEAL under whose series it appears.
Denise H on Goodreads wrote:...a ton of action plus some very steamy scenes as Marty and Peter navigate the political climate and their feelings for each other. I definitely want to read more from this series!
Debbie Casswell on Goodreads wrote:As another opposites attract read, the characters were engaging, there was action, suspense, and some steamy scenes as Peter and Marty (Martha) navigate each other and their feelings as well as the political atmosphere.
Viper Spalding on Goodreads wrote:I loved this story because it is the back story of Missy's parents who we met in Missy and Zane's story in the Hot Seals series and Peter and Marty take us on quite a ride.
Carolyn Spence on Goodreads wrote:I really enjoyed the bit of history in this one, as it's set in 1976 in D.C. and ties in closely with a lot of the political events of the period. I'm old enough to remember that time as current events, so it was refreshing to see the author get all the timeline issues right. A true opposites-attract, Marty and Peter challenged each other yet still connected on a visceral level. A very nice read.
Zoe on Goodreads wrote:Peter is an up and coming politician and Martha (Marty) is a journalist. She’s quick to judge Peter in her outburst and Peter falls more in love than he already is, and this is only their first meeting! It was refreshing to read about a love story in the 70’s, no technology to connect right away, when you were gone for two weeks, you were gone for two weeks without speaking with each other. The story was sweet until the unexpected happens and then you are on pins and needles. Loved it.
Dorel on Goodreads wrote:Not going to lie, I had reservations going into this one, new author for me, what seemed like an odd time period, an origin story... But, I loved it! I will look for some full length novels by Cat Johnson.
Diane McIafferty on Goodreads wrote:This is the 1st book I read by Cat Johnson. I loved this book's storyline. The dialogue in this story made me laugh. I loved the hot & steamy scenes. I loved Peter's character. I loved Marty's character. I felt scared for Marty. I loved the ending. Awesome job, Ms. Johnson.
Diane (Books and Tequila Blog) on Goodreads wrote:The story is about love, greed, anger and how a person can get caught up in a tragedy by just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It does have a happy ending and I would recommend this book to everyone.
Kristen Lewendon on Amazon wrote:I’ve read a few Cat Johnson books including Saved By A SEAL, so I was excited to read this novella. It is a standalone but tells the story of the parents of Missy Greenwood, Saved By A SEAL’s heroine.
...I enjoyed this exciting story and liked the tiny Missy & Zane teaser at the end.
DESIRE IN D.C. by Cat Johnson
This story is an emotional roller-coaster. Buckle up and prepare to be taken for a ride. Love at first sight is a real thing, and they say opposites attract. While that isn’t perfectly true for Peter and Marty, it certainly makes for an interesting Meet Cute for the pair...
