Countdown to One Night with a Cowboy

42 days until the official release of ONE NIGHT WITH A COWBOY, and even though it’s been on preorder at Amazon and BN for a while, and the paperback ARCs (Advanced Review Copies) have been out for review for about a month now, and the digital ARC is going up on Netgalley any day, release day is still the most exciting time for an author. The launch of a new book in a new series with a new publisher is even more so. I’ve already shared an excerpt of the hero and heroine sneaking off to a hotel together, and the hilarity that ensues. You can read that here. I’ve shared the real life story behind the infamous fried bologna sandwich scene here. You can read a portion of that fun, sexy scene on my Facebook Page in the Exclusive Fan Zone. But One Night with a Cowboy didn’t end up to be all fun and sex. The hero is a cowboy, yes, but he’s also a soldier. My non-fiction research for the chapters that take place in Afghanistan took me to a very dark place, and because of that, some of the scenes are deadly serious. I think it’s […]

Authors After Dark Savannah 2013

Yes, this is how this business works. It’s still the last quarter of 2012 but I’m already paid and registered with a room booked and promo purchased for a convention next August. The registration for Authors After Dark 2013, to be held on the riverfront in lovely Savannah, GA, is selling out quickly and I think they hope to be completely filled by December this year, so here I am, posting about it now because they are holding a fabulous promotion. Check out the official post for details HERE but in a nutshell, there are free registrations and lots of prizes up for grabs during their registration drive, now through December 24th. Also happening now for next August’s convention is voting for the Bookie Awards. I’ve been honored to be nominated by the convention attendees for 3 years running now. I’ve won for my books in my Contemporary Western series Studs in Spurs two years in a row, and I’m nominated again this year in the Western Romance category for 2 books in that series, and also in the Best Anthology category for Cowboy Lust (out through Cleis Press, edited by Delilah Devlin with a forward by Lorelei James). The […]

Classic Romance Tropes – Opposites Attract

A month or so ago I discussed one classic romance theme, the marriage of convenience, and how it has changed over the years even though it still exists and remains a reader favorite. You can read that post HERE. Today, I bring you another classic trope still going strong–opposites attract. This is a major theme in my upcoming release, ONE NIGHT WITH A COWBOY. Tucker is a part-time bull rider and full-time career military man from Oklahoma. He likes big trucks, barbecue beef, a good rodeo, and a nice day of fishing at a peaceful lake. Becca is a native New Yorker and a professor of English. She has a doctorate degree, loves books, wine, shopping, and big city culture. But all things are equal once the clothes come off. The question is, is that enough?
