âCome on. Let me at least walk you to your carââ
âThatâs not necessary. Iâm fine walking alone.â
âItâs no problem.â
Alicia could see that Andrew was one of those men who didnât believe a woman when she said no. The kind of man she had in mind when she and Ashley took that self-defense class. Sometimes the only thing theyâd listen to was a knee to the groin.
âI donât need you to walk me,â she said with more force, hoping she didnât have to employ any of the moves sheâd learned.
âSure, you doââ
âThe lady said she wants to be left alone.â The deep, take-no-shit voice came from behind her. And from above her too.
She twisted her neck and glanced up, way up, to see who had spoken.
The sight had her eyes widening. It was the hottie from the other end of the bar. The one whoâd caught her ogling him. Damn, was he tall.
READ MOREShe angled her body so she was between the two men. Facing neither one as they flanked her.
âStay out of it, buddy,â Andrew said, apparently unfazed that the dark-haired stranger had a couple of inches on him. Not to mention a whole bunch of muscles. Even out of the corner of her eye, she could see that.
âIâm sorry. I canât do that.â The reply was as polite as if he were on a job interview.
âThe ladyâs with me,â Andrew said, still not backing down.
She wasnât sure if it was hubris or stupidity that kept him there.
âAre you with him?â the tall, dark and handsome stranger asked, his copper-colored eyes focused on hers.
Heâd surprised her. She wasnât prepared to finally be included in the conversation. Theyâd basically been speaking over her head the whole time.
Alicia was very happy to answer the strangerâs question. âNo. Iâm most definitely not with him.â She shook her head.
Her self-appointed protector leveled a stare on Andrew and waited. It was the heaviest silence sheâd ever felt.
Finally, Andrew read the room and took the hint that he wasnât wanted there.
He narrowed his eyes and glared at her. âYou know what? You can tell your sister to lose my number. Iâm not interested. Youâre both batshit crazy.â
With that, Andrew stomped out of McPâs, leaving Alicia to watch him go.
Heart pounding, she glanced around the room and saw all eyes on them. Great. Now she was a public spectacle.
Looking up at the man whoâd come to her rescue, even though sheâd never asked him to, nor had she wanted him to, she let out a sigh. âYou shouldnât have done that.â
She could have handled Andrew on her own. And in a less embarrassing manner too. One that wouldnât have all of McPâs patrons staring.
He laughed. âUh, youâre welcome.â
âI didnât ask for your help.â And she certainly wasnât going to thank him for making a scene with her in the center of it.
âYou might not have asked for help, but you needed it.â
âNo, I did not.â She folded her arms across her chest. âI could have handled him myself. I took a class.â
âYou took a class?â He snorted. âYouâre what? Five-foot nothing?â
âFive two. And whatâs the point?â she asked.
âThe point is, he had almost a foot on you. And a good hundred pounds.â
âI wasnât planning on wrestling him.â
He let out a short laugh. âWell, I think he had hopes of wrestling with you.â
She scowled. âThatâs crude.â
âItâs the truth. Some guys donât know how to take no for an answer. Especially when it comes to attractive women.â
He thought she was attractiveâNo! Focus. It didnât matter if this stranger was a walking, talking wet dream.
She was annoyed with him and his interference, even though he had come up with the same assessment as she had regarding Andrewâs ability to hear and accept the word no.
âDo you know how to take no for an answer?â she asked him.
He smiled, and damn it took him from just plain hot to panty-melting. âWell, to be honest, I donât hear no all that often.â

Denise DeCrescito (From In Here) on Amazon wrote:Ms Johnson gives us another sweet and sexy story, and she is one of my very few "they could write the Chinese takeaway menu and I would read it" authors.
The banter between the characters is sharp and witty, the humor in the book is both sweet and salty, the physical chemistry between them is scorching hot, and the secondary characters are valuable parts of the story.
